Savage Style

This week's savage styler is the creator of fashion blog, Genetic Boi. As said on his site:

"My name's Quan. I'm young, broke, and fabulous. Born 10/24/87 in Vietnam, moved to US in 1998. I enjoy my solitude. I study Graphic Design, but I do a little bit of everything... so I prefer to call myself an artist. I believe that identity is a construct. I'm often alone and misunderstood, but I'm free!"

What he fails to mention in this modest introduction is that his fashion sense is as defiant as his incredible anti-gravity poses:

YesStyle pullover, BDG jeans (cut to shorts), vintage thrift shoes, D.I.Y. jean jacket

Topman pants, H&M woven cardigan and tank top, biblical sandals, Urban Outfitters necklace

Topman pants, H&M buttondown, YesStyle belt and bag, vintage bracelet and shoes

WHO THE HELL IS GENETIC BOI?!?!
I have been using this screen name as my identity for the past 4 or 5 years now, ever since I downloaded AIM (aol instant messenger) way back in freshman year of high school. My good friend Linda was joking around since I loved Dark Angel so much, I should be Genetic Boi or some sorts. She actually made an AIM account under GeneticBoi for me because I wasn't caught up with all the chatting yet at the time! Since then, I have been using GeneticBoi for online purposes. At the same time becoming more confident and learning about myself to reflect onto this ID named GeneticBoi.
**The reason why I jump in my pictures is simply because ANYBODY can stand and take a good picture, but it's hard to jump AND take a good picture, therefore, I want to challenge myself, and not bore my viewers.**

YesStyle blazer, Kendu shorts, vintage bracelet, Urban Outfitters necklace, H&M t-shirt

Topman shirt, YesStyle blazer, harem pants and backpack, shoes Aldo

D.I.Y. leopard shirt, vintage thrift leather jacket and shoes, H&M shorts, oversized wayfarers

Words from Quan to live by:

Remember: even if people talk shit about you, or say negative things, you have all the rights to feel self-important! LOVE YOURSELF! FREE YOURSELF! BE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR SEXUALITY! BE YOU! :)

This Trend Just In: Pattern with a Purpose

Every season features at least one covetable pattern, but this summer pattern matching (and mix-matching) is a trend taken from the fall season that seems to also work well with warm weather wear. Since the heat doesn't allow for layering patterns as much, many designers have taken queues and either combined patterns into one single-layer ensemble or created a pattern or print to create visually stunning - yet wearable - optical illusions.

Women

Rose Byrne attended the MoMA Celebratory Dinner in a Peter Pilotto chiffon river print dress and Brian Atwood 'Betsey' sandals.

Jessica Alba was out (showing off her baby bump) in a button-down chiffon striped and spotted dress from Chris Benz Resort 2012.

Minka Kelly wore a green mixed print dress by Etro to Comic Con. Long and loose wavy hair and nude platform pumps complete the look.

TV personality turned reality starlet Lala Vazquez-Anthony wore this baby floral patterned bubble dress from Zara while out running errands.

Gillian Zinser was seen on the set of '90210' in this Maxi Floral Print Dress.

Debra Messing was seen strolling on the beach in this breezy white-black-and red patterned dress.

Catherine Zeta-Jones wore this vibrant multi-colored cover-up with a thigh-high slit while relaxing in the French Riviera.

Marion Cotillard wore this rather shapeless - yet well proportioned - Thakoon red patterned short 'tent' tunic dress with asymmetrical hem on the red carpet.

Madonna's daughter Lourdes looks all grown up in this All Saints Collection dress.

US Vogue's Editor Anna Wintour wore this taffeta print cocktail dress from Balenciaga's 2012 Resort collection for a premiere, complete with a beaded necklace and her signature bob and sunglasses.

During their whirlwind North American tour, Kate Middleton attended the Foundation Polo Challenge event with Prince William wearing a marble gray hand painted chinoiserie silk dress from Jenny Packham's Spring 2011 collection.

Glee's Jayma Mays worked the watercolored carpet for the Critics' Choice Awards in this watercolor print strapless Elise Overland dress, vibrant orange clutch and nude platforms.

Nikki Reed donned an Etro tribal inspired print maxi dress for the Teen Choice Awards.

Men

There are a few (brave) men who've embraced the trend and although their pairings can be considered much more watered down than their female counterparts, their interpretation is as spot on as you'd expect, with a few unexpected pattern pairings all in the name of fun - and fashion!

Pharrell Williams was seen wearing his own Ice Cream branded shorts.

Its a fashion face-off for the fellas! Here we see David Beckham and Adam Levine in this Ralph Lauren 'Navajo' inspired shawl collared sweater. Who do you think wore it better?

Kanye West wore this now infamous Celine blouse to perform at Coachella.

RuPaul paired this plaid suit with cowboy boots, striped shirt and flower for a Jimmy Choo for H&M event. Is this pattern pairing too busy or just right?

Short shorts are the new (necessary) Shorts

Daisy Dukes. Cut-Offs. Hot Pants. Walking shorts. Stubbies. Knee Pants. Whatever you call them, this summer shorter shorts have adopted a new name: necessary. With no sign of heat relief insight, many are combating the summer's brutal sun the best way they could think of: shorter inseams. Short shorts were on trend for this summer for sure, and leave it to celebrities to usher in the trend by heating up the already hot streets while running errands, taking the stage or burning up the red carpet in barely there bottoms.

The trend has been received as less-than-lukewarm with most men, but there are a few guys who decided to attempt to pull off (or rather, pull on) the thigh skimming shorts. Whether it was for a role, part of a costume or for fitness, there's not much to say about a guy confident enough to wear short shorts except it takes a real man to make them look masculine.

Nip/Tuck's Julian McMahon wears this summer's trendy brief swim trunks

Ed Westwick on the set of Gossip Girl

Westwick's "Chuck Bass" character is obviously a fan of short shorts

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo caught flack for this picture but he's got an amazing pair of (over-tanned) legs so why not show them off?

Singer John Mayer as "Captain of the S.S. Short Shorts"

Glee star Matthew Morrison dressed up as Richard Simmons for Halloween

Which brings us to the man who puts the "short" in short shorts for men, Richard Simmons. Even in his 60's, the "pony" man still has the legs for it.

Even though they're short, they can still put a dent in your pocket. Luckily, companies like Forever 21, American Apparel, Topshop and Zara have made affordable options for both men and women.
